AN OPPORTUNITY

FOR THE ADVANCED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

to take a course that not only will count toward college credit and possibly high school credit, but will also provide valuable skills for coping with the stressors of higher education and life.

Stress Management Online (18-PRFS-502 Section 705)

Offered by the University of Cincinnati – Health Promotion and Education Program, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH)

Dates offered.  In general the course is offered the first Monday of every quarter. U.C.’s Academic Calendar:  See UC’s 5-year calendar for specific dates:  http://www.uc.edu/registrar/5yrcal.asp

This is a concentrated 8-week, 3-quarter/2-semester credit hour, dual-level social science course (undergraduate/ graduate credit) that is offered online for talented students that want to learn more about managing stress, but choose not to take a traditional in-class course. The requirements are modified for high school students/undergrads taking the course. These students will be evaluated differently from the graduate students and have a greater flexibility concerning deadlines.

Course Description:  This concentrated, 8-week, online, dual-listed (undergraduate/graduate) course is designed to simulate a problem-solving approach to stress management.  Students will identify their own personal stressors and be introduced to specific intervention strategies.  They will be given the opportunity to practice and evaluate strategies to reduce their identified stress. In addition, the students will be examining stress theories concerning etiology, personality, and disease; stress patterns in work and other environments; and physical/mental responses associated with stress. A course syllabus can be found at the website: http://homepages.uc.edu/~griesiws/Course Materials are posted on U.C.’s Blackboard website (http://blackboard.uc.edu ). Once registered, the student must “activate his/her account” and register his/her working email address on Blackboard. Since the class never meets, this will be the major means of communication.
