Assignment Policy

Assignment Submission Format at end of Assignment Policy

1. You may turn in any assignment earlier than the due date. ANY ASSIGNMENT SUBMITTED LATE WILL RESULT IN A POINT DEDUCTION.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS are those submitted after the stated due date and time up to TWO DAYS from the original assignment due date. (See "Assignments Checklist" in Blackboard) Any later than TWO DAYS will be given a grade of "zero" but must still be submitted with a quality sufficient for Dr. G.'s satisfaction.  Exception:  See #9b below.

NOTE:  There is no such thing as a late Discussion Board post.  Those posted later than the deadline date and time will receive a "zero."

Unfortunately, since you are doing a lot of research on the subject, your work must be turned in on time. If you are two assignments behind, it is suggested that you withdraw from the course with a "W," regardless of excuse.  Failure to do so may result in a final grade of "F."

REPEATED "Noncontact":  There are times when Dr. G. will request a reply to his email from individuals.  This may be occasioned by late work, revision of an assignment, lack of contact with him, etc..  In these cases you will be asked to reply, turn in an assignment, etc. by a certain date.  If no reply is forthcoming from you on that certain date, the Assistant Academic Director of the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH) will withdraw you automatically.  THIS IS NOT DONE ROUTINELY, but in some past cases, became necessary.  You will be given ample warning through email.

2. Since Assignments may be submitted earlier than the deadline, technical difficulties do not excuse you from the responsibility of submitting them on time. As in most online courses, technical difficulties do not excuse one from the responsibility of participation and other assigned work.

3. Assignments will be submitted via email with the proper format in the "Subject" box of the email AND your name in the message box.  The proper format for the "Subject" box is "707 PQ nameofassignment" (e.g. 707 PQ ASC). This will assure an automatic reply, "Dr. G. has received your email." when he opens it on his computer.

Check your email the due date of the assignment.  If there is some mistake or I can't read your submission, I will noitfy you by email.  You must resubmit within ONE DAY from my sending the email, letting me know by email that you have resubmitted.  If you do this, it will not be counted as late.

4. Your assignments will be typed using the word processing program Microsoft Word (*.doc) OR saved in Rich Text Format (*.rft). If you do not have this program, you can obtain it by purchasing MS Office at the U.C. Bookstore. In a special arrangement with Micosoft, you will obtain a software program that could cost you hundreds of dollars for only $7.50!

5. Put your name and the assignment in the upper-left hand corner of each page of the written assignment (e.g. ASC Bill Smith).

6. MODELS/EXAMPLES: ANY of your work may be presented to benefit the class, without identification, as an example.

7. RETENTION OF WORK: All tests, assignments, exercises, reports, etc. will be kept by your professor. You will receive notification of the quality of work on most of the assignments. You have WITHIN ONE WEEK of the class's receiving the grade to review each assignment.

8. Assignment Revisions:  Revisions or rewriting of the the whole assignment or parts of it may be required by Dr. G..  The most common instances include:

a. If the original submission is done extremely poorly.

b. If major sections of the assignment were omitted.

If a revision is required, Dr. G. will post "revise" in the Grade Post in the place of a grade for that assignment.  In this case, you revision will be graded on the "+2 day late" scale and MUST be resubmitted within 2 days of the posted notification.

9. "Extra" points:  These may be earned in two ways:

a. Doing much better than expected on "Required" assignments.  In this case, your work was far superior to the class in general.

b. Doing the limited amount of "Choice" assignments (see "Assignments Checklist"). Before "Choice" assignments will count, you must complete all "Required" assignments to Dr. G.'s satisfaction.  This does not mean that you can't submit a "choice" assignment before completing all of the "required" ones.  NOTE:  If an assignment is missed, you may choose to use it as a "Choice" assignment, but with the points deducted for a late assignment.  A missed SMP assignment must be submitted before submitting the next SMP assignment.  For example, if you missed SMP3, it must be submitted before the SMP4 deadline.

Assignment Submission Format

The format is important:

1. Put your name and the name of the assignment in the upper left-hand corner of every assignment.

2. Save assignment in either MS Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rft)

ALL assignments are to be submitted via EMAIL.

3. In the email, put the "707 PQ title of the assignment" in the Subject box. (By doing this you will receive an automatic reply saying "Dr. G. received your email" when I open the email.)

4. Put your name and title of assignment in the "message" section of the email.

NOTE:  CHECK YOUR EMAILS:

On the deadline day, I will send an email to any student whose (1) email was not readable due to incorrect saving of assignment (#2 above) OR (2) to any student who did not submit the assignment.

You have 1 day from the sending of my email to resubmit or submit your assignment, correcting any problems in the readability or submitting a late assignment.

(1) Those have a "readability" problem will not have points deducted if I receive your assignment during this time.

(2) Those submitting a late assignment will have late points deducted.  No assignment is accepted for credit after 2 days late unless counted as your one "Choice Assignment."

In other words, LATE ASSIGNMENTS are those submitted after the stated due date and time up to TWO DAYS from the original assignment due date. (See "Assignments Checklist" in Blackboard) Any later than TWO DAYS will be given a grade of "zero" but must still be submitted with a quality sufficient for Dr. G.'s satisfaction.

NOTE:  There is no such thing as a late Discussion Board post.  Those posted later than the deadline date and time will receive a "zero."
