Drop the Course Procedure

FOR INFORMATION ONLY

Since the course is an 8-week course, the drop deadline is the Thursday of Week 4.

You may drop the course through "OneStop" or through me:

REQUIREMENT:

Before dropping the course in either case, you are required to email Dr. G. with your intent and a reason for your intended withdrawal.

It is recommended that you drop the course if you are two or more assignments behind.  I do not generally give "incompletes (IP)" for course grades.

+++You must put "707 PQ Drop Course" in the "Subject" box of your email.  By doing this, you will get an automatic reply, "Dr. G. has received your work."  Please keep this email reply as a "receipt" or proof of your submitting the email  in the case of any dispute.

"ONESTOP" WITHDRAWAL: Found on "Onestop" Website (http://www.onestop.uc.edu/ )

Click on "drop a class" link.  As you can see from the description below, online withdrawal is very specific to the first 21 calendar days of the quarter basically:

How do I drop/withdraw from classes?
You may drop a class online through the first three weeks of a quarter (first two days during summer), although students are reminded that a percentage of the tuition for classes dropped during the second and third week will be charged. You may withdraw from a class after the 21st calendar day of the quarter (see summer calendar for specific summer dates) by having the instructor sign your drop slip and assigning you a grade of official withdrawal or failure ("W" or "F"). Signed drop slips should then be processed in the One Stop Student Service Center or in a branch registration office. The last day to withdraw from a class is the 58th calendar day of the quarter (see special dates for summer). If you wish to withdraw from ALL of your classes, you should contact your college office and request a complete withdrawal.

If the above does not work:  Type the following into the address box in your browser and follow directions:  http://www.sis.uc.edu/default.asp?APPName=Registrar

If you withdraw online, the Registrar will send me an email with your name, course number, etc. with your withdrawal.  However, also in the email is the following:

"To the Instructor: walter.griesinger@uc.edu
This on-line withdrawal is subject to the requirements specified by your course syllabus.  Promptly notify the student at the e-mail address below if you require a personal meeting to discuss the withdrawal or if you will assign the "F" grade for the course."

This means that if I didn't receive the required "intent" email, I will assign you the "F" grade for the course.

WITHDRAWAL FROM COURSE DIRECTLY THROUGH ME:

To drop the course:

Email Dr. G. with your intent.  I will then notify the Assistant Academic Director, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH) in 432 Teachers and she will drop you automatically.

Incomplete Policy / Course Withdrawal

"IP" (incomplete) grades will NOT generally be given. You will receive a grade based on the total points earned by your class's final exam day deadline. Anyone withdrawing from any class must first contact me via email to receive a "W." Remember that you're dealing with computers and must officially withdraw from a class. You should be aware of the following:

"W" to indicate an Official Withdrawal with Participation ;  "WX" to indicate an Official Withdrawal without Participation  ;
"F" to indicate an Official Withdrawal Failure  ;  UW  Unofficial Withdrawal for students not attending course but has not withdrawn officially.

This grade must be given to a student who stops coming to class but does not officially withdraw. The "WX" grade is equal to an "F" in calculating your grade point average.

IMPORTANT:  It is unfortunate if emergencies arise; however, you may be given an "F" for a course grade or withdraw from the class if missing 2 weeks total  throughout the quarter with or without contact regardless of reason.
